Seasonal Mooring Strop Provision

Since 2023 Falmouth Harbour have provided strops for all vessels on seasonal moorings. This has resulted in a safety record that we are extremely proud of. We recognise that there is no one size fits all approach, so we offer a range of solutions as detailed below.

Premium Chain Strops
Included in the price of your mooring is a premium chain strop. Falmouth Harbour subsidise this option as we believe it’s the most secure way to attach a boat to a mooring. These strops have soft hose protection at the loop and range from 8mm chain for boats up to 6.5m to 16mm chain for boats of 15m+. Check the table below to find out what your chain size would be.

Custom Rope Strops
Chain isn’t suitable for all vessels, so we offer the option to have us procure a custom bridle or rope strop for your vessel. These are built to our stringent specifications using tested and certified components by expert riggers. To keep peace of mind all rope strops have chain fitted up to the water level to minimise the risk of chafe damage out of sight. here is an extra cost associated with a custom rope strop. This consists of: an initial charge to reflect the fabrication of the strop, and an ongoing maintenance fee to cover repair and replacement as necessary.

Unique Strops
Where we have boats which don’t fit a conventional setup Falmouth Harbour will work up and procure a solution specially for your boat. This has ranged from dyneema strops for larger boats with small fairleads to 32mm ropes for heavy vessels wanting extra security. In this scenario the vessel owner will be charged the purchase price of the strop solution and a small service charge each year for the lifetime of the strop.
