Hello from the Falmouth Haven team! Throughout the summer season during working hours, you’ll usually find us attending both the Slipway and the Marina – or look out for us greeting visitors on our launch “Arwenack”. Our office base at 44 Arwenack Street (right next to the Quayside Inn) is also always staffed during office hours, at any time of year.
Name: Barry
Position: General Manager
Responsibility: “I’m responsible for making sure that all aspects of Falmouth Haven run effectively and have the customer at their heart, ensuring that all our guests get the very best from their time here.”
Who am I?: “I moved down to Cornwall from Scotland as a young lad and I have loved being by the water ever since. My father used to own a small sailing boat which was moored in the Penryn River, although nowadays you are more likely to see me braving the waves on my kayak or bodyboard at the beach with my family.”
Name: Sue
Position: Accounts Manager
Responsibility: “I manage all aspects of our leisure business accounts as well as overseeing recruitment, including managing seasonal staff. In addition to this I handle the general administration to ensure everything runs smoothly – and that includes keeping the boys in the office on the straight and narrow…”
Who am I?: “Boating is a big part of my family history. My father, grandfather and uncle were oystermen plying their trade in the Fal, making me the third generation of Falmouth Working Boat sailors. My husband and I occasionally take to the water in our boat, catching some rays of sunshine and the occasional fish. We are also training up our grandson to take the helm… When not on the water I walk and enjoy swimming.”
Name: Martyn
Position: Operations Manager
Responsibility: “I’m responsible for ensuring facilities are as safe as possible and are maintained to a high standard, as well as managing the allocation of moorings and berths. I also liaise with event organisers of rallies and flotillas where necessary, and handle any customer queries or problems.”
Who am I?: “Some of my earliest memories are of paddling around at Mylor in a dinghy with a long painter, which attached me to my parents ashore. I went on to be a keen Sea Scout on the Helford River, spending many happy hours exploring the creeks by boat. Family holidays were often spent cruising the South of England and the coast of Brittany, and I also lived onboard a small yacht while studying at Plymouth University, and again when I moved to London with my then-girlfriend, now wife. After five years spent working on the Thames helping people to get afloat, the call of Cornwall became too strong and I returned home. Today I enjoy local club racing, even if I don’t feature in the results table much.”

I assist and support other members of the haven team with the smooth running of the marina and outposts.”
Who am I?: “Born in Falmouth and grew up in the area. I rowed and fished on the water as a child in the family fishing boat and punt. Having worked locally within the tourism industry for a number of years my feet are now on terra firma. Outside of work interests include walking, gym, gardening, and socialising with friends.”

Position: Marine Assistant

This entails listening to our customers’ requirements and the provision of services to best meet their needs. Working mainly around the marina and the harbour I also occasionally can be found staffing the fuel barge or in the role of boat park supervisor.”
Who am I?: “I was born in Falmouth and have spent much of my life working and playing in or around the local harbours and beaches. My first memories would be buying a Mirror dinghy with my paper round earnings and launching from the dinghy park on nearly every day I had free in the summer of 1971. I enjoy helping people and my job role enables me to do just that along with sharing my affection for Falmouth and the area. When not at work I can often be found at the helm of my Shrimper or at home spending time with my family and Pepsi, our little pooch.”

Who am I?: “I grew up in Brighton, dinghy sailing in my free time, which grew my love for the sea at an early age. Leading me onto a degree in Marine and natural history Photography, which I recently completed, focusing on the movement of plankton around the Cornish waters. Being a keen scuba diver I have travelled and worked as part of a turtle and shark research team around Bali, helping me gain amazing experience on underwater photography. Now I spend my time hiking around local coastline, enjoying the natural environment and photographing Cornwall.”
Name: Carolina
Position: Marine Assistant
Responsibility: “My work is customer orientated and involves various bits and pieces on the visitor pontoons, fuel barge and on the water. Primarily, I work on the fuel barge refuelling vessels as they come and go from the marina.”
Who am I?: “I come from Yorkshire. Growing up I worked as RNLI beach lifeguard and surfing with my friends and a fondness for the marine environment grew from there. Before coming to Cornwall, I spent two years working as a means of travelling, as gardener in Cominical, CR and in a scuba diving school in Azores. After these experiences I decided I would like to develop a career in the maritime industry. So I am now in Cornwall working on the harbour, doing some crewing and studying a degree in Marine Photography and Natural History”

This is usually answering queries on the pontoon, refilling vessels on the fuel barge and general marine support which varies every day. I also love hearing about your adventures! Always on hand, ready to help.”
Who am I?: “I grew up in Devon, surfing, sailing and hiking on Dartmoor. After school I travelled through volunteer work, ranging from an Olive Farm in Catalunya, to teaching English in Sicily and renovating chateaus in the Pyrenees. I moved to Falmouth to study Film and my love of the ocean has drawn me to a career in the marine industry. Hopefully combining filmmaking and marine work in the near future. I spend my free time swimming, reading and playing the saxophone.”
Name: David
Position: Marine Hub Manager
Responsibility: “As part of the fantastic Haven Team, my role is to help with the smooth running of the leisure side of the business… either working in and around the marina and harbour, manning the fuel barge, or in the boat park assisting with launch and recovery. Always happy to say hello, and always happy to help!”
Who am I?: “I was born in Oxford and have spent much of my life working in design, marketing, and corporate hospitality… but have always had an interest in boats and being out on the water. During this time I’ve been fortunate to have had ten consecutive years sailing at Cowes Regatta on The Isle of Wight, not only racing, but managing invited clients, ensuring they had a safe day sailing, and a fun time out on the water. When not at work I love to be out on the mountain bike trails, or cruising around the lanes of Cornwall on my motorcycle.
